Week FALL 2008 : Jen's Take
A lot of sportswear, small scale prints, touches of metallic in
everything (80's), a nod to the 40's(Diane Von Furstenberg's ode to
Veronica Lake), 40's and 50's(Michael Kor's sexy take on the more
demure puff skirt), 70's (Badgley Mishka channeled Bianca Jagger's
glamorous jet set lifestyle).
The theme seems to be the lack of a theme. The power that women hold
in
choosing what looks/labels/pricepoints suit their lifestyles is the
big
story. Strength combined with femininity is a message that comes on
strong. If 2008 is a year for change and options beyond what we thought
possible (think a woman or Afro American in The White House), than the
looks we saw come down the runway at Bryant Park support the options
without any major departures that will change the course of history.
Whether you embrace the Luxe mixes offered up by Oscar de La Renta or
get in touch with your dark romantic side (Derek Lam), you will
undoubtedly be able to change your looks daily without any problem!
Fall Fashion Week 2008: Jayne's Take
There is always more of a "fashion" story for fall than spring
simply
because women, in general, buy more for this season. The story for 2008
is "empowered elegance"...designers referred to strong women
in history
for inspiration and interrupted looks to support their vision. Long
gone
are the overpowering shoulder pads we once saw, but beautiful feminine
touches in each and every collection.
Look to your waist as a key spot this season with belts of all shapes
and
sizes being emphasized and with the global warming trend finally being
considered relevant to our lives, designers are responding with sheer
fabrics; lace, chiffon's, and outerwear to meet their customers needs.
A cape should definitely be in your future and look to some of the younger
designers like TIBI and Erin Fetherston for terrific choices. And, don't
put those boots away anytime too soon......they remain one of the key
ingredients to any women's wardrobe!
